For King and Company: British East India Trading Company, 1768

The year is 1768, and the Honourable East India Company (of Britain, of course) is on the cusp of controlling the Indian subcontinent. The Company is the most powerful firm the world has ever seen, and it faces the monumental task of consolidating authority and expanding colonial trade in South Asia. Fresh off a decisive victory over France in the Seven Years’ War and maintaining a near-monopoly on the commerce in the British Empire, the Company has the opportunity to pursue power and profits previously unimaginable for any private corporation. The Court of Directors controls a private army, a bureaucracy tasked with governing large swaths of India, and huge reserves of capital. It is an era of nearly limitless opportunity—but opportunity can turn to disaster as quickly as the wind changes direction at sea. The Court of Directors must fight for King and Company: they must secure the imperial interests of the Empire and, above all, engage in the ruthless pursuit of profit.

Crisis Director - June Huang

June Huang is a fourth year majoring in Economics and Political Science. She was Chair for Ford Motor Company at ChoMUN XVII and Crisis Director (CD) for Henry VIII's Privy Council at ChoMUN XVI, and she couldn't be more excited to crisis direct the British East India Company. In her spare time, June loves exploring Chicago's restaurants and catching up on all one thousand of her favorite television dramas. She hopes the directors of the EIC enjoy steering the company through waters both clear and muddy, and she can't wait to see which way they choose to go. Her top three weaknesses? Cats, soy chai lattes, and Pride & Prejudice.

Crisis Director - Ezer Smith

Ezer Smith is a Second Year majoring in Political Science with a minor in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio-- one of the most underrated cities in the country, according to everyone who's from there-- he is thrilled to be crisis directing the British East India Company after serving as an Assistant Chair last year on Yitzhak Rabin's Second Ministry. In addition to competing on UChicago's Model UN Team, he is also a member of the staff of Sliced Bread, a campus literary magazine. His two greatest vices are Netflix and really good food, and he is excited to see how the delegates will respond to all the impossible situations they will find themselves in as Directors of the illustrious British East India Company.
