Secretariat

Secretary-General - Jesse Orr

Jesse James Booker Zigel Orr (the length of his name reflects how much he likes to talk) is a fourth year majoring in South Asian Languages and Civilizations, which really just means he’s majoring in India. Jesse grew up in Baltimore and has spent the last few years learning Hindi, spending a summer in India and providing constant commentary on Indian politics. He also competes on the traveling team and he is chairing for MUNUC, UChicago’s high school conference. At ChoMUN XV, he crisis directed Rajiv Gandhi’s Cabinet and at ChoMUN XVII, he served on ChoMUN Secretariat as Chief of Staff (his more important role was making sure everyone on ChoSec was fed in his additional role as Chief Food Officer). When not spending time at a Model UN-related activity, Jesse reads as much as he possibly can and has self-assessed that he “knows a lot about a lot”, so don’t worry if he goes off on a tangent about an obscure political party or an ancient war in the middle of conversation. He also enjoys swimming (as you’ll notice with the lean swimmer bod), practicing his best Shah Rukh Khan hair toss, and spending time with his new dog, Shadow. Jesse and Tanvi served as co-executives for a previous MUNUC committee, and in similar fashion, he suspects have to do his best not to infuriate her too much. Jesse is honored to be serving as ChoMUN XVIII Secretary General and looks forward to meeting all of you and working towards making it the best ChoMUN yet!

Feel free to contact him at secgen@chomun.org.

Director-General - Tanvi Mago

Tanvi Mago is a fourth year in the College majoring in Political Science and minoring in Human Rights. She grew up in the white-picket Chicagoland suburb of Naperville before moving to Gurgaon, a suburb of Delhi (though without as many white-picket fences). She has been participating in Model UN since high school; was a USG at ChoMUN XVII and was chair of the Chicago City Council, 1919 at ChoMUN XVI, she’s quite excited to finally have a conference-wide vantage point of ChoMUN. In the limited time she spends not doing MUN (Tanvi competes as part of the travelling team and is a chair at MUNUC) she works for the International Human Rights Clinic at the Law School. Additionally, Tanvi enjoys brunching, running, watching television, and making Guacamole. This is her second time working with Jesse (the two were committee executives at MUNUC together) and she’s hoping to make it through the year without yelling at him toooo much. Tanvi is incredibly excited for the coming year and believes that with the proper amount of work, this year’s ChoMUN can be the best yet!

Feel free to reach out to Tanvi at director.general@chomun.org if you have any questions!

Chief of Staff - Chirag Sachar

Chirag Sachar is a third year in the College studying Biology and Molecular Engineering, and is looking forward to meeting and working with the wonderful staff of ChoMUN. Chirag’s Model UN experience includes CD’ing the 1905 Russian committee at ChoMUN XVII and participating on the traveling competitive team. Chirag calls home both Chicago and Hong Kong, and he will never stop being a Blackhawks fan. Beyond MUN, he will also be serving as the president for the University of Chicago Kickboxing Club. When not buried under problem sets at the library or working in a prosthetics lab, Chirag loves to play hockey, watch The Office, climbing trees, and enjoy Chicago's great cuisine. He is eagerly looking forward to making sure ChoMUN continues to be one of the most enjoyable conferences on the circuit.

Please feel free to contact Chirag at cos@chomun.org and if you’re a UChicago alum, at alumni@chomun.org, with any questions, concerns, or funny quotes.

Design Director - Sofia Wyetzner

Sofia Wyetzner is a second year most likely majoring in Computer Science at the University of Chicago. Born and raised in New York City, she is a devout fan of the Giants, Yankees, and Seinfeld. She has also learned to embrace Chicago as a second home and reluctantly admits that the Windy City is an adequate alternative to the Big Apple. Her time as an Administrative Staffer for ChoMUN XVII has helped her hone both her t-shirt selling skills and her love for ChoMUN, and her three year stint on her high school Model UN team has fostered her interest in international politics. When she’s not designing graphics for ChoMUN she can be found ballroom dancing, playing the piano/guitar/oboe, or painting. Other interests include the color yellow, wandering around art museums, binge watching House of Cards, and crying over Derek Jeter’s last season in baseball. Sofia is incredibly excited to be able to contribute to ChoMUN XVIII and to work with the amazing ChoMUN community!

Sofia can be contacted with questions, comments, or concerns at design.director@chomun.org.

Chief Financial Officer - Frederic Repond

Frederic Repond is a fourth year college student majoring in both Economics and Environmental Studies. Frederic went to elementary school in a suburb of Chicago before moving to Geneva, Switzerland. He then returned to Chicago after graduating from high school to attend the University of Chicago. Frederic started debating at and leading groups to Model UN conferences in high school by attending the The Hague International Model UN conference. Prior to becoming Chief Financial Officer, Frederic has competed with UChicago’s traveling team, acted as moderator for our high school conference, MUNUC, and held positions as assistant chair, chair and director of corporate finance for ChoMUN. Other than ChoMUN, Frederic leads a sustainability student organization on campus named the Phoenix Energy Initiative, he is a research assistant for the Becker Friedman Institute for Research in Economics, a board member of the Holy Trinity Church University Ministry RSO, and a member of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Frederic thoroughly enjoys skiing and bicycling but the options for these activities are relatively limited in Chicago given that the city frowns upon skiing from skyscrapers and city roads tend to have a higher pothole-smooth terrain ratio than the moon. At the end of the day, however, few things are more satisfying to Frederic than kicking up his feet, grabbing some smooth, dark chocolate and reading a novel next to a fireplace, for which you need good winters, and Chicago never fails to disappoint in that regard.

Frederic can be reached at cfo@chomun.org. Please feel free to contact him with any questions or concerns about the conference.

Chief Administrative Officer - Shubham Chandra

Shubham Chandra, a second year in the college is thrilled to join ChoSec as the Chief Administrative Officer. From Dayton, Ohio, Shubham left the exciting state of Ohio to join the University as an Economics and Public Policy Major. Shubham has had extensive background in international affairs and policy, being a nationally ranked high school debater and high school debate coach. At ChoMUN XVII, Shubham served as Assistant Director of Corporate Finance. Outside of MUN, he is active as treasurer of MoneyThink, manages external relations for the Green Economics Group and is a brother of Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity. Outside of school, he enjoys modifying and repairing European automobiles, playing drum set and non-pretentiously drinking unsweetened green tea. He also eats a different restaurant every week and plans to eat at every Chicago restaurant worth going to before he graduates. He hopes to go into consulting in the near future because he can fix anything, including your business.

Shubham can be contacted with questions, comments, or concerns at cao@chomun.org.

Director of Delegate Affairs - Alison Fedoris

Alison Fedoris is a fourth year following in the footsteps of the esteemed author Tucker Max by majoring in Law, Letters, and Society. Hailing originally from a small town outside of Philadelphia, Alison roots for the sports teams of her family's hometown of Pittsburgh (GO STEELERS!). When not competing with the Model UN Team or otherwise spending insane amounts of time with her Model UN family, Alison participates on the Advisory Board for Student Disability Services and works as a Senior Interviewer for the Admissions Office. In her free time, Alison enjoys solo date nights with Netflix and holiday-shaped Reeses. Alison is so honored and excited to be a member of ChoMUN XVIII and cannot wait to help make this the best ChoMUN yet!

Please feel free to reach out with any and all questions at info@chomun.org or registration@chomun.org.

Under-Secretary-General - Andrew Muller

Andrew Muller is a fourth year from Doylestown, Pennsylvania planning on majoring in Computer Science and Economics. In his fourth year of ChoMUN, Andrew previously staffed NASA 2014 and Crisis Directed the Argentinian side of the Falklands War JCC at ChoMUN XV and XVI respectively. Last year he served as an Under Secretary General on ChoMUN XVIII Secretariat. Beyond ChoMUN, Andrew also travels with the competitive team and plays FIFA as much as possible, rarely using anyone besides his favorite team Liverpool. He is excited about being a USG at ChoMUN XVII and looks forward to seeing all of you there.

Please feel free to contact him with any questions at am.usg@chomun.org.

Under-Secretary-General - Julius Pak

Julius Pak is a climate-spoiled third year claiming hometown status in both Los Angeles and Hong Kong. In addition to studying, as of writing this, political science and public policy at the University of Chicago, he has since learned the meaning of the word “winter.” Prior to his illustrious tenure as a revered USG for ChoMUN XVIII, Julius has staffed the Congress of Vienna and served as the crisis director for the Finnish Wartime Cabinet in its previous two iterations. He is also a high school debate coach and an editor for the Chicago Journal of Foreign Policy. In whatever modicum of free time he has left, Julius can be found either struggling to play soccer, both real and virtual, or hiding from the responsibilities of being a productive human being.

Please feel free to contact him with any questions at jp.usg@chomun.org.

Under-Secretary-General - Rahul Bhide

Rahul Bhide is a third-year, majoring in Economics and Political Science. He was born in Mumbai, India, but has spent most of his life in Hong Kong. Rahul has been involved in Model UN since high school, and crisis directed the Government of the Chilean Junta at ChoMUN XVII. He also competes on the traveling team, and is very excited to be USG for a number of extremely interesting committees. On campus he serves on the boards of the International Students Association and the Student Alumni Committee. Outside of school, Rahul enjoys house music, cooking and playing golf.

Please feel free to contact him with any questions at rb.usg@chomun.org.

Under-Secretary-General - Smita Mutt

Smita Mutt is a fourth year Political Science and Public Policy major at the University of Chicago who's spent about half of her life in Bangalore India and half living in Massachusetts (6th state, best state). Last year, she took her delegates back to the rise and decline of the Mughal empire and took every opportunity possible to play Bollywood music in her committee. In addition to Chomun, she is involved in UChicago's high school conference MUNUC as a Crisis Director and loves that a large chunk of crisis MUN is historical or political wish fulfillment. She's also a campus tour guide and is spending the year reading everything she can about Indian and Pakistani high school education syllabi for her BA Thesis. She's extremely excited about the breadth of her committees and the executives she gets to work with and firmly believes this ChoMUN will be the best one yet!

Please feel free to contact her with any questions, comments or reading recommendations at sm.usg@chomun.org.
