1693: The prosperity of the Joseon State has fallen into uncertainty, as deteriorating economic, agricultural and social emergencies are paired with increasing government instability. The State has been gripped with frigid temperatures, the likes of which our people have never before experienced; thousands of commoners are dying with every passing day. A failing economy has sown unrest throughout the State and the Court, exacerbating our already rocky relationship with our neighbors, China and Japan, over border issues. In a time of conspiracies and divisions, ideological clashes must not stop us from coming together to strengthen our state. Will the Royal Court of the Joseon Dynasty be able to strengthen the state? Remember, treason against the state and His Highness, King Sukjong will not be tolerated. The time has come to grow, to unite and to establish our state as a prominent power in the eyes of the world.
Elizabeth Greene is a rising second-year in the college, majoring in Law, Letters, and Society. She is thrilled to Chair for the first time on the same team as her fabulous Crisis Directors, Jean Lee and Noor Singh. When not in meetings for MUNUC, UChicago’s high school conference, ChoMUN, or David Axelrod’s Institute of Politics, Elizabeth enjoys procrastinating, admiring photos of the Duchess of Cambridge, and pinning her dream home on Pinterest. She is a devout bandwagon fan from Boston and a dedicated foodie – happy to point anyone in the direction of one of Chicago’s fabulous restaurants! She’s excited to delve into all of the social misfortunes, war games, and court intrigue that this jam-packed committee is going to provide!

Jean Lee is a rising third-year majoring in Economics and Political Science. When she's not completing problem sets or writing papers (or procrastinating on both), she enjoys watching Korean dramas and exploring Chicago. She hails from the Washington, D.C. area where she enjoyed the opportunity to witness America's political debate and government system. Now, she's even more excited to watch how the Joseon state will run with the political intrigue and conspiracies the Royal Court will bring.
