High in the Sierra Maestra mountains of Eastern Cuba, a revolution is brewing. Having returned from exile in Mexico, Fidel Castro and his merry band of aspiring socialists are beginning their long campaign to liberate the Cuban people from the imperialist pigs in Havana. Armed with little more than their voices, their ideologies, and their guerrilla tactics—in addition to their Kalashnikovs—this intrepid bearded bunch will face innumerable challenges as they attempt to win the hearts and minds of the people. Needless to say, the Batista regime will not go down without a fight, and the capitalist swines and their institutions will use all of their power to stem the inevitable tide of the people’s wishes. Only time will tell just how high that tide will rise and what will be swept away when it recedes back into the crystal waters of the Caribbean.

Ned Pollard is a second year in the College majoring in political science and public policy. Hailing from Baltimore, Ned’s Model UN career is still in its infancy, having only begun at the University of Chicago. A year of competing on the traveling team and staffing the Obama election committee at last year’s ChoMUN have Ned very excited to run a committee of his own. Outside of Model UN, Ned is active in Student government and IM sports. He does his best to root for his hometown sports teams, a task complicated by distance and generally poor performance.
Nicholas Dunlap is a second-year majoring in Economics. Originally from Wisconsin, Nick loves history, sports, and spirited debate and will gladly spend an hour with you weighing the Heat’s chances at another title or World War II battle tactics. Nick is active on both UChicago’s Lacrosse team as well as in Chicago’s martial arts scene, a founding member of the University of Chicago’s Ju-Jitsu Club. Last year, he was a crisis staffer for the Union of European Football Associations committee and this year he’s excited to finally bring a wondrous prosperity to the Cuban people. ¡Por Cuba Libre!
